    Architecture in Minecraft - Level 1

    For grades 2-4     

    Minecraft | Engineering

    Students create massive projects as a whole class working together on different tasks. These projects are easier to create with teamwork and students will keep their project at the end. (We are not endorsed or affiliated with Mojang Studios.)

    Architecture in Minecraft - Level 2

    For grades 4-6     

    Minecraft | Engineering

    Students blueprint their project design, plan the construction schedule and methods, and create massive projects as a whole class working together on different tasks. More ambitious projects are easier to create with teamwork and while utilizing SpecGraphix's exclusive WorldEdit tools provided to students including an auto-fill wand, and exclusive blocks that are unavailable in the regular Minecraft game. (We are not endorsed or affiliated with Mojang Studios.)

    For grades 3-6     

    Minecraft | History

    Students will learn about history by exploring full size historically accurate recreations of famous landmarks and cities. Meet famous people such as JFK and Fidel Castro at the Pentagon in 1962, explore an exact copy of the R.M.S. Titanic before and after it sank, and much more. (We are not endorsed or affiliated with Mojang Studios.)

    Historic Adventures in Minecraft - Part 2

    For grades 3-6     

    Minecraft | History

     

    Students will learn about history by exploring full size historically accurate recreations of famous landmarks and cities. Meet famous people such as Woodrow Wilson and Georges Clemenceau at the Palace of Versailles in 1919, visit the Forbidden City in Beijing and watch Emperor Yongle take over as ruler of China, and so much more. (We are not endorsed or affiliated with Mojang Studios.)

    Hollywood Production in Minecraft

    For grades 4-6     

    Minecraft | Film & TV

    Students write their film script, build their movie set on Minecraft, design costumes for their actors, direct actors and act in peers' films while screen recording each scene, and then import and edit the footage in Davinci Resolve 16 or iMovie. Students will have a finished movie.

    Creating Comics in Minecraft

    For grades 3-6     

    Minecraft | Graphic Arts

    Students write their story idea, create the locations of their story in Minecraft, design costumes for characters, place their characters in their locations and take screenshots, then import their pictures into Sketchpad to design their comic-book pages, add a title, speech bubbles, and any other design elements. Students will have a finished PDF comic-book. (We are not endorsed or affiliated with Mojang Studios.)

    For grades K-2     

    Film & TV | Graphic Arts

    Students learn all the essential industry-standard photography rules including composition, rule of thirds, mise-en-scene, lighting, and color theory. Then students go out and take photos to import into Gimp, Pixlr X, or Adobe Photoshop to crop, color correct, add effects, and patch up raw photos. Students will keep 2 edited photos.

    For grades 3-5     

    Film & TV

    Students create a movie, trailer, commercial, or music video script or storyboard, pair with other students to act, direct, and record several projects, then take their project's recordings and edit them in Davinci Resolve 16 or iMovie by adding titles, sound effects, music, and editing color, contrast, and effects.

    Advanced Video Editing

    For grades 4-6     

    Film & TV

    Students learn advanced editing techniques in Davinci Resolve 16 including adding alpha layers and watermarks, advanced audio editing, video pacing, advanced color editing, advanced transition smoothing techniques, editing video speed with optical flow, and much more. (Taking "Intro to Video Production" first is recommended.)

    Theater Arts | Film & TV

    Students learn how to prepare for and present at a film audition and proceed to act in a film learning how to step into the shoes of a character, realistically feel that character's emotions, and let loose those emotions on a film set while memorizing their character's lines simultaneously.

    For grades K-2     

    Mass Media | Music

    Students will edit podcast and radio discussions to reach the highest sound quality possible using Audacity by adjusting pitch, base, flow, fluctuation, and more. Students will also add transition jingles and background music to their podcast show. 

  • Social Media Superstars

    For grades 5-8     

    Mass Media | Business

    Students will learn how to open a social media account on the platform of their choice, be taught about internet safety and privacy, finding an audience, creating content for a specific demographic, tracking analytics and trends, and keeping viewers returning while attracting new viewers with graphic design and psychological techniques, and monetizing their content to make money.

  • Digital Storytelling

    For grades K-2     

    Graphic Arts

    Students learn how to design their own picture book using Sketchpad. They will learn to draw, add text, add photos, and adjust the designs of all their elements. Students will keep a 3 to 5-page picture book at the end.

    For grades 3-5     

    Graphic Arts

    Students learn how to use a powerful digital design tool called Sketchpad which is a free app. Students will discover all the tools Sketchpad has to offer and design beautiful works of art. Students will also be briefly introduced to resolution, aspect ratio, and other essential information all graphic artists need to know.

    Graphic Arts | Animation

    Students will learn how to animate their own basic shapes and objects using Pencil2D. This is the first level to prepare students for animating their own basic cartoons in the "Basic Cartoon Animation" class.

  • Graphic Design in Marketing

    For grades 3-6     

    Business | Graphic Arts

    Students will not only learn how to use a powerful digital design tool called Sketchpad which is a free app, but they will learn all the basics of marketing. What tricks do mega corporations use to manipulate and control customers? Special techniques students will learn to include contrast, color moods, typography, the composition of elements, and more. Students will have a completed poster of their own selling a product or service by the end of the class.

    Students will animate their own cartoon by writing their script, drawing their characters, and coding their characters' movements and actions using MIT's Scratch coding engine for kids. Students add speech bubbles or audio recorded lines, draw animated props and environments, and more.

    For grades K-2     

    Film & TV | Graphic Arts

  • Computer Engineering

    For grades 3-6     

    Engineering

    Students learn everything they need to know to start building their own computer from start to finish. Students will be introduced to binary code and basic electrical engineering. Students will learn the names of all computer parts, what they do to help a computer function properly, and how they interact with each other. 

  • Basic Coding in Scratch

    For grades 2-4     

    Coding

    Students will code their own maze game using MIT's coding engine for kids, Scratch. Starting by drawing three mazes of varying difficulty, connect the mazes as levels, add a character that is coded to move when pressing the arrow keys, and stops when hitting a maze wall. Students can also add enemies that stop the player for an extra challenge.

    Advanced Coding in Scratch

    For grades 3-5     

    Coding

    Students will code their own quiz game using MIT's coding engine for kids, Scratch. Starting by creating 10 quiz question ideas about anything they want, creating stylized buttons that glow when scrolled over, and writing code that takes the player to the next question when clicking the correct answer or taken to a game over screen when clicking the wrong answer. This class teaches students the fundamentals of game UI design at an industry level.

  • Choose Your Adventure in Scratch

    For grades K-2     

    Coding

    Students will write their own choose your own adventure novels with multiple endings. Then will learn to code their interactive story in Scratch by adding buttons that determine the path of the story. Students will add a couple of locations, the main character, and an obstacle or villain.

  • Board Games in Scratch

    For grades 4-6     

    Coding

    Students will code their own board or card games in Scratch where the player can compete with a friend or a computer AI player. Students will first choose to code either the checkers or chess board games or the spit, war, or blackjack card games. The game that is made will be determined by the instructor based on a student vote or the class's prior experience coding in Scratch.

    For grades 3-6

    Students will not only learn how to use a powerful digital design tool called Sketchpad which is a free app, but they will learn all the basics of marketing.   • Shark Tank for Kids

    For grades 3-5     

    Business

    Students become entrepreneurs and pitch a business idea to the class, design their own business logo, learn how to create a pitch deck for investors, work with a team to get tasks done, find the best marketing strategy for their products/service, learn to adapt to an ever-changing customer base and get a basic understanding of how to manage large amounts of revenue. 

  • Entrepreneurs Bootcamp for Kids

    For grades 5-8     

    Business

    After taking the "Shark Tank for Kids" class, if you are seriously invested in becoming a real entrepreneur, "Entrepreneurs Bootcamp for Kids" is the perfect place to get started on your journey learning all the essential basics you need to know. Students will get their feet wet in many introductory aspects of administration, marketing, product/service development, public relations, finance, and more.
